As the New Year approaches, it's the perfect time to make resolutions and refresh your home. A year end declutter can be a great way to start the year. Make space for a new year and reset the energy in your home for a calm and successful 2024.

In this blog post, we will cover our four favoutire areas to declutter as the new year approaches. We've included some tips and tricks to help with the process. Don't worry - - you don't have to tackle everything at once. Take your time and prioritize what matters most to you as you prepare for the new year!

1) Reset Your Wardrobe

The new year is a great time to rethink your closet. You may have a lot of new items from the holidays to make space for. If there are clothes that you don't wear, it is a great time to consider donating these items. Make sure they are in good condition if you decide to donate. There are a few wardrobe tricks that can help keep your closet organized and clean:

  • Give away an item every time you bring a new piece home.

  • Turn your hangers around and put them back the other way only after you have worn them. After a few months you will see which items in your closet aren't used.

2) Refresh Your Pantry

Decluttering your pantry is a great way to kick off the new year, especially if healthy eating is one of your goals. A streamlined pantry can help you with meal planning and make meal prep more efficient. Here are a few tips to get started on an organized pantry:

  • Start by taking everything out and checking expiry dates. Discard any expired items.

  • Donate unopened, non-expired goods you won't use.

  • Group similar items together. You can use containers or bins to keep things together.

  • Keep the items you use the most up front and accessible. Use higher shelves for items that you don't use as much.

3) Retink Unused Toys

If you have young kids, the holidays are a great time to declutter. Instead of holding onto everything from previous years, try to clear out items that are not used. Kids often have a lot of new toys around the holidays and this can make a toy declutter a lot easier on them.

Tip: When it comes to toys, try to get your kids involved before getting rid of things. You can even make an activity of it and get your kids to decide which toys would be best to donate to other children.

4) Renew Your Coat Closet

As the new year approaches, take a closer look at your coats and cold-weather accessories. Identify those items that go unworn, and consider donating them. Your old coats and gear have the potential to keep someone warm during these chilly months. This is a great time to donate cold-weather items while they are most needed.

As one year ends and another begins, we bid farewell to the old and welcome the new. A well-organized space can enhance daily living and make your property more inviting. Take the time to declutter, organize, and reimagine your living space. A clutter-free environment is a great start for the new year and exciting new beginnings.
